Marijino zlato ali ognjič- Cvet, ki nikoli ne gre iz mode
Ognjič ali meseček sodi v družino nebinovk (Asteraceae), njegovo znanstveno dvočlensko poimenovanje je Calendula officinalis L. Izvor najdemo v latinski besedi calendae, ki pomeni prvi dan v mesecu (meseček). Hrvaško poimenovanje je "neven", angleško pa "marigold".
Ime izvira iz poimenovanja Mary's gold (Marijino zlato), saj so kristjani pogosto k Marijinemu oltarju prinašali cvetove ognjiča kot simbol zlata na praznik oznanjenja, ki sovpada s praznikom vseh mater 25. marca. Tudi sicer je ognjič simbolno povezan s pozitivno, sončno energijo, ki v življenje prinaša optimizem in veselje.
Ta vrtna in nezahtevna rastlina cveti od junija pa vse do oktobra. Ognjič je svoj sloves bogatil skozi dolgo zgodovinsko obdobje. Že stari Egipčani so ga uporabljali v pomlajevalne namene, njegov izvor pa se pripisuje širšemu mediteranskemu območju. Užitna je cela rastlina, vendar je najbolj znana in raziskana uporaba njegovih cvetnih listkov. Zdravilnost ognjiča je bila dokazana z mnogimi študijami, vendar njegove učinke najbolj potrjujejo več tisočletne uporabniške izkušnje.

Za pripravo oljnega izvlečka, ki je prisoten v naših izdelkih (npr. Ognjičevo mleko za čiščenje ter Kamilica z rmanom- nega občutljive in suhe kože) uporabljamo sveže, hladno stisnjeno slovensko ekološko olje sončničnih semen ter cvetne liste ognjiča, ki ga na naši njivi poberemo ob lepem vremenu po tem, ko roso osuši sonce.
Pravilen postopek priprave ognjičevega oljnega izvlečka:
Sveže pobrane cvetove narobe obrnjene položimo na lese, v zračen in senčen prostor. Posušenim ročno potrgamo cvetne listke, ter z njimi napolnimo čiste kozarce za vlaganje. Vsebino kompaktno potlačimo ter jo prelijemo z rastlinskim tako, da je njegova gladina dva do tri centimetre nad listki. Z mešanjem odstranimo vse zračne mehurčke, nato pa kozarec dobro zapremo. Hranimo v toplem in temnem prostoru štiri do šest tednov, vmes vsak dan dobro premešamo. Po šestih tednih olje precedimo skozi čisto gazo, iz ostanka pa s prešo iztisnemo najbolj dragocene kapljice. Olje pustimo stati nekaj dni, da se v usedlini zberejo morebitne nečistoče, nato pa čisto olje odlijemo v temno steklenico. Zaščitimo ga z rožmarinovim ekstraktom in tako preprečimo prezgodnjo oksidacijo pripravka.
Tako dobljeni izvleček lahko uporabite samostojno, kot del domače lekarne ali pa ga vmešate v mazila, emulzije in serume. Znanstvene raziskave so potrdile njegovo protivnetno in antioksidativno delovanje ter pospeševalni učinek na celjenje ran. Primeren je tudi za nego najbolj nežne in občutljive kože, tudi pri otrocih in dojenčkih.
