Zadnje čase ugotavljamo, da splet preplavljajo prepisi, da blagovne znamke ena od druge kopirajo opise botaničnih izvlečkov, da se stvari ponavljajo tako močno, da se izgubi sled za tem, kdo je kako neumnost napisal prvi.
Zatorej prečiščujemo besedila in vas opremljamo s podatki, za katere obstajajo empirične študije in njihovi izsledki. Vzemimo za primer šipkov čaj, s katerim lahko zaužijemo nekaj vitamina C, ni pa to niti približno enak izvleček, kot je šipkovo olje. Z oljem nikakor ne boste koži dostavljali omenjenega vitamina, pa naj bo asociacija še tako močna, insinuacije prodajalcev olja pa še tako zvite. Velika večina vitamina C se nahaja v ovojnini šipkovega ploda, vitamin C je vodotopen, zato ga zaman iščete v olju, ki ga pridobivajo s stiskom semen.

Melisa in njen hidrolat.
Najprej naj na hitro osvežimo znanje. Botanični ali rastlinski izvlečki se pripravljajo na različne načine, integralni izvlečki, ki obsegajo sušenje in mletje cele rastline, pa so danes izjemno redki oz. jih težko srečate kot pripravljeno surovino za nadaljnjo uporabo. Raje kot celotno rastlino, se v ekstrakciji uporablja njene dele, odvisno seveda, kako učinkovanje želimo doseči. Med samimi postopki se uporabljajo različna topila, ki nase vežejo različne učinkovine (voda, olja, alkoholi itd.).
Predstavljate si lahko, da učinkovina, ki je topna v olju nikakor ne bo relevantno prisotna v vodnem izvlečku in pa seveda obratno. Poleg tega se razlikujejo tudi izvlečki v enakem mediju, ki so bili pripravljeni in hranjeni pod različnimi pogoji (tlak, temperatura ipd.). Ne želimo biti pikolovski, pač pa le slikamo nekoliko bolj jasno sliko in vas želimo usmeriti v pravilni način raziskovanja, ko se boste lotevali rastlinskega sveta v zdravilne namene.
Tako smo pripotovali do rastline, ki je nam zelo ljuba in nam je v nasadu povzročala nešteto preglavic.
Prav ste slišali. Melisa, ki vendar raste kot plevel in za uspešno vegetacijo ne potrebuje ničesar. Naj povemo, da je v mešanem nasadu trajnih zelišč majhna črna gosenica našla prav njo in si jo privoščila po principu: vse ali nič. Poskušali smo s prav vsemi pripravki, ki jih sicer poznamo kot naravne insekticide (pelin, kopriva, dalmatinski bolhač itd.), na koncu smo že napol odmrle rastline reševali z roko in gostje pobirali v vedro. Temu lahko mirno rečemo radosti ekološkega zeliščarstva. :)

Zgornja shema prikazuje sestavo učinkovin rastline v celoti, nas pa je seveda zanimalo, kaj od tega in kako delovanje lahko pa pričakujemo od njenega hidrolata? Ker so hidrolati zelo slabo raziskani, po do sedaj znanem pa jim strokovnjaki napovedujejo svetlo prihodnost v svetu zdravja in dobrega počutja, je prav, da povemo, da so v zadnjih letih pridobili na slovesu in jih ne tretiramo več kot le stranske produkte destilacije za pridobivanje bolj znanih eteričnih olj.
Poglejte denimo nas; MOIKA destilira dišeče in zdravilne rastline zgolj z namenom pridobivanja hidrolatov. Kar pomeni, da posebno pozornost namenjamo prav kakovosti hidrolata, zato upoštevamo vse znane zakonitosti, ki to kakovost omogočajo. Sue Clarke (BSc (Hons) PhD, in Essential Chemistry for Aromatherapy (Second Edition), 2008) pravi, da je posebnost hidrolata melise v tem, da je po sestavi in delovanju precej podoben svojemu bratu, eteričnemu olju. Slednjega je prav zaradi visoke vsebnosti hidrofilnih ali vodoljubnih molekul izjemno težko in drago destilirati. Vzorci hoidrolata melise, uporabljeni v dotični raziskavi so vsebovali:
Ketoni 3–10% – protivnetno, protibolečinsko delovanje, pomoč pri celjenju kože, blažilno, digestivno, ekpktorantno in sedativno delovanje.
Aldehidi 69–73% – protivnetno, protivirusno, blažilno in tonično delovanje.
Seveda pa se tukaj poraja vprašanje, koliko hidrolata je potrebnega, da se manifestira določen učinek ter v kakem časovnem obdobju učinkuje terapevtsko. Vse to in še več so vprašanja za raziskovalce in in pa seveda terapevte, ki bodo lahko poročali o uspehih in rezultatih v prihodnje.
